Culture Statement

At Loma Linda University Health, our calling to diversity, equity and inclusion means providing opportunity and access for all people. These principles are critical to continuing the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ. Our aim is to foster a culture where each person in our community feels valued, supported and empowered to achieve individual and collective goals.

Our Strategic Plan for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

As we acknowledge successes and failures of our history, Loma Linda University Health aspires to focus our individual and corporate efforts on three areas:

  • Transforming our hearts through a shared culture
  • Expanding our minds through intentional education
  • Maintaining accountability through comprehensive policies

How We Actualize Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Diversity: The Loma Linda University Health community reflects a myriad of demographic characteristics, identities, perspectives and backgrounds. We believe each individual person is unique and our differences provide the potential for greater strength, innovation and creativity.

Equity: We believe in providing resources to ensure individuals have the opportunity to achieve success. We commit to fair treatment and the elimination of barriers that have inhibited access, professional growth and advancement by underrepresented groups.

Inclusion: We desire for all members of our community to experience a sense of belonging, a high level of engagement and shared decision-making. Furthermore, we believe it is vitally important for each person to strive toward understanding the needs and perspectives of others.

Designated a Minority-Serving Institution

Loma Linda University is designated a Minority-Serving Institution (MSI) by the U.S. Department of Education under Titles III and V of the Higher Education Act. As an MSI, we can access more benefits and funding to build infrastructure, expand academic programs, and develop resources to improve the success of low-income and minority students. We’re proud of this recognition and excited by the opportunity it creates for continued improvement in diversity, equity and inclusion.
