Church Activities

  • The Well Church – Lakewood: The Definitive Soapbox - Community Outreach (2010-present) The Definitive Soapbox (TDSB) is an outreach ministry through The Well Church-Lakewood. Each month TDSB holds a free open mic in Long Beach for the to engage in poetry, spoken work, singer/song writer, and musical art forms. I serve as the Administrative and Finance Director for TDSB. In addition to the monthly open mics we hold the annual Long Beach Poetry Slam, which is the only one of its kind in the area. This year we hosted 12 poets from all over southern California and had over 400 people in attendance from the community at large. WorldHelp - Night of Freedom (2016, 2017, 2019) WorldHelp is a global organization reaching out to those around the world in of help. Guatemala is the poorest country in Central America and WorldHelp has partnered with Hope of Life in Zacapa to provide medical, education, and spiritual support. The Llano Verde mountain region is known for having significant needs for young children that are not able to reach the care. Due to this, there are many children that die due to malnutrition and other health needs. Kelly’s House is a special need home at Hope of Life that is in need of an expansion (http://whprojects.worldhelp.net/kellys-house-expansion) . There are many children waiting for an opening to be able to receive the care and rehabilitation they need. When I visited Hope of Life in January of 2016 the group I traveled with decided we would hold a fundraiser to try and raise the remaining funds. The group consisted of seventeen women from several churches in the Los Angeles area, many weeks, days, and hours of planning and fundraising; but we were so please to hear that we raised nearly $100,000 to fully fund the expansion project as well as provide the additional funds to begin outfitting Kelly’s House with necessary medical and rehabilitation equipment. The link provided above shows the project needs, and the attached email from post-event is provided as well as board-member contact information for documentation. (Present)
