About Walter D. Johnson, MD, MBA, MPH

Dr Walt Johnson currently holds Professorships in Surgery, Neurosurgery, and Public Health, and is the Founding Director of the LLU Center for Global Surgery. He is also Associate Vice-President for Academic Programs for the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons.   

 

Prior to this position, he led the Emergency and Essential Surgical Care Programme at World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland from 2015-2019, working to increase access to safe, timely, and affordable surgical, obstetric, and anesthesia services to underserved populations through strengthening healthcare systems, training an adequate health workforce, developing appropriate health policy, and building strong partnerships, among many other tasks.

Dr Johnson teaches and mentors public health and medical students, surgical residents, and fellows in many countries. He continues to assist WHO in special projects.
