About Gail T. Rice, EdD

Gail Rice (www.drgailrice.com) has devoted her professional life to the joys of teaching in the health professions.  Working as Professor in the School of Allied Health Professions and Director of Faculty Development for Loma Linda University since 1992, Gail retired as Professor Emerita in 2019.  Gail's first year teaching at Loma Linda University's School of Nursing was 1969-1970.  Gail has been a constant student of how to effectively improve teaching and learning.  She started the Formative Dialogues in Teaching program for the campus, chaired the campus Faculty Development Committee, and led out in campus faculty development events during those years. Her committee planned the semi-annual Faculty Development Showcase Week and insituted the Kinzer RIce Award for Excellence in University Teaching.  She taught courses for faculty and graduate students on assessment and evaluation, transformative teaching and learning, collaborative learning, and online teaching.  She regularly taught and presented at conferences around the world, including the University of Southern California's Innovations in Medical Education and the Harvard Macy Institute for Education in the Health Professions. Her most recent book publication is Hitting Pause: 65 Lecture Breaks to Refresh and Reinforce Learning, published by Stylus Publications in 2018.
