The Master of Science degree provides content appropriate for persons preparing to teach at the secondary level or in related professional school areas, or for persons intending to pursue careers as research technicians.

Interdisciplinary master's degree designed to help students gain clinical experience along with academic knowledge within the field of bioethics. Graduates are prepared for education, research and service pertinent to the ethical issues in healthcare and beyond.

Students in the Master of Science in Biology program (non medical/non health related) take advanced biology courses and conduct significant, original research in preparation for writing their thesis. This program emphasizes "field-based" studies that generally address questions of "ecological" relevance such as animal biology and marine sciences. Students whose interests are more narrowly focused within health or other basic sciences should refer to programs within the LLU Medical School. See Medicine in program drop down.

The School of Medicine offers basic sciences curricula leading to a Master of Science degree. The core curriculum provides a broad background in molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry. Advanced courses allow each student to fully develop an area of interest.

A specialized clinical master's degree which prepares students wishing to pursue chaplaincy as a career. In addition to chaplaincy and leadership coursework, four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) will be earned. Our goal is to prepare chaplains who can model the "teaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ," and are trained at the highest level of professionalism, in preparation for board certification by APC.

The Master of Science in Counseling provides graduates with a broad academic background in mental health counseling, as well as professional training for a wide variety of careers working with individuals, families, and groups. Professional counselors assist clients in working through personal and emotional concerns such as anxiety, depression, adjustment problems, family stress, developmental transitions, crisis, trauma, sexual abuse, domestic violence, medical problems, disability, education and career planning, personal loss, and grief.

This dual degree program enables students to earn two master's degrees and a certificate in one 121 quarter unit program. Graduates are eligible to sit for the Professional Clinical Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist licenses (in California; issued through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences). The included Drug and Alcohol Counseling certificate allows students to apply for three separate national certificates in substance abuse counseling. Program may be completed in three years of full-time study. Applications accepted for fall, winter, spring and summer starts. Clinical placements available within the Loma Linda University Health care system as well as local community agencies and organizations.

The MS in Criminal Justice emphasizes integrated behavioral health interventions, restorative justice, and community reintegration to address the prevention, early intervention, treatment and rehabilitation needs of persons at risk for or who have already been incarcerated. Students learn to work with social services, law enforcement, courts, probation and parole to support at risk, incarcerated and recently released inmates. 

The M.P.H. degree in epidemiology is designed to give theoretical and practical training in how to study and control factors that influence health-related problems. This degree prepares students to work in federal, state, and local health departments/agencies, academic and research institutions, health maintenance organizations, and hospitals.

The M.P.H. degree earned in the Global Health Program prepares a graduate to practice public health with a transformational development worldview—seeking positive change in the whole of human life materially, physically, socially, psychologically and spiritually. The M.P.H. degree in global health prepares graduates with technical competence and cross-cultural skills to create and manage sustainable health and development programs in diverse settings and populations worldwide.

The health education component of the program focuses on educational, interpersonal, community, and legislative factors that promote positive health behaviors. The curriculum emphasizes interventions based on scientific data and established behavioral and learning theories that promote public health through the processes of education and community organization. Along with the knowledge of lifestyle-related diseases, health, nutrition, and fitness, the wellness coaching component of the curriculum delivers motivational and behavioral skills needed to enable graduates to become a part of the rapidly growing field helping individuals achieve optimal wellness.

The non-thesis Master of Science degree provides content appropriate for medical technologists preparing for the specialist in microbiology certification; for secondary teachers seeking advanced training in areas such as molecular biology, immunology, or microbiology; and for students seeking admission to professional schools, such as medicine or dentistry.

The Natural Sciences Program leads to a non-thesis Master of Science degree. Students do a project instead of a thesis. This program is designed for the student who plans to teach at the secondary level or with other goals that do not include seeking a PhD degree.

Accelerated nursing program for non-nurse college baccalaureate graduates who wish to become registered nurses (RNs). This program prepares students in the provision of evidence-based nursing care with an emphasis on care coordination, religious/cultural care, and wellness/illness continuum.

Dietetics Many work environments, particularly those in medical and health care settings, require that an individual be credentialed as an RD. This program prepare graduates who demonstrate competence as public health nutrition and dietetic professionals, apply science-based evidence to practice, function independently as leaders and cooperatively as team members to promote health, undrerstand the contribution of vegetarian dietary practices to human and environmental well being.

Dietitians and nutritionists help people by scientifically evaluating their diets and suggesting diet modifications to prevent and treat illnesses by promoting healthful eating habits.

This track is designed for students who have a bachelor's degree in an area unrelated to nutrition or international students.

The Advanced Dental Education Program in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics teaches students to examine, diagnose, and treat dental malocclusions and oral cavity anomalies. The Orthodontist designs and fabricates appliances to realign teeth and jaws to produce and maintain normal function and to improve appearance.

Physician Assistants (PAs) are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine under physician supervision. They are formally trained to provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services.

This one of a kind program in the United States aligns with the core legacy of vegetarian nutrition at LLU. It can also serve as a stepping stone for the PhD in Nutrition, focused on plant-based nutrition research at the LLUSPH or any other PhD Nutrition programs. It is aimed to provide evidence-based didactic and research training to registered dietitians and other health care professionals on plant-based nutrition for the health of the individual, population, and the planet.  This program is completely online (combines synchronous and asynchronous classes) with didactic training in nutritional science with a focus on the role of plant-based diet patterns, plant foods, and nutrients with respect to promoting health, preventing disease, and sustaining the planet, along with the evidenced-based approach to applying the principles of plant-based eating for the health of the individual and population. The program culminates in a research project with a publishable manuscript or a written report. The program provides background experience for those interested in research careers in academic or industry settings, provides advanced training in plant-based nutrition for physicians and other health professionals who want to apply this in their practice, is a stepping stone to pursue a PhD, trains health educators who want to promote health and prevent lifestyle diseases, and prepare those that want to work in programs on environmental sustainability.

The Population Medicine Program is designed to meet the needs of practicing health professionals who have experience in direct patient care and wish to augment their current careers with additional information and skills in population management. The students will be competent in analyzing the health of a patient population and understanding the social, environmental, and biological determinants of health in that population. Individuals who may benefit from this program are practicing health professionals, such as physicians, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, social workers, physical therapists, and psychologists; and students who are currently enrolled in clinical practice-related doctoral degrees (e.g., M.D., D.O., D.D.S., Pharm.D.). This degree will provide clinicians with cutting-edge knowledge and a skill set to integrate population-based, health-care approaches into their everyday clinical practice.

Pop Med The Population Medicine Program is designed to meet the needs of practicing health professionals who have experience in direct patient care and wish to augment their current careers with additional information and skills in population management. The student will receive didactic and clinical mentoring in neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations. Courses will be a mix of discussion, projects, case studies, and Web-based learning. Students are responsible for finding their own clinical site and radiologist mentor. This is an online/blended program. The rest of the time, coursework is taken online within Loma Linda University's web-enhanced learning environment.

The Master of Arts in Religion and Society degree, offering customizable options of study, is designed for those seeking to serve the church and world in the 21st century in a variety of capacities. The degree is ideal for individuals seeking deeper biblical, theological, and philosophical insight, spiritual growth, practical competency, and cultural literacy in the context of a range of vocational settings—healthcare, the local church (non-ordained ministry), non-profit organizations, secondary education (teaching certifications must be obtained independently), further graduate study and more.

Respiratory therapists evaluate, treat, and care for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders. Therapists manage ventilators, which deliver pressurized oxygen into the lungs of patients who cannot breathe for themselves.

The mission of the combined Master of Social Work and Criminal Justice MS is to facilitate more efficient completion of two graduate degrees for students with a strong interest in, and who are dedicated to, the advanced practice of both social work and criminal justice. The MSW emphasizes ecological systems, a perspective that focuses on the interaction of a person or system in relation to his/her environment. The Criminal Justice MS aims to prepare students to think critically, analytically, and creatively about the problems of crime and social control in the contemporary world. The combination of these two programs has guided the development of the foundation curriculum, professional concentrations, and selection of practicum sites for this dual degree program.

Speech-Language Pathology, MS Speech-language pathologists work in a variety of settings, including schools, hospitals, and research. They typically evaluate and treat speech and language disorders in children and adults. The master's degree is entry level for the profession.

Speech-Language Pathology, MS The Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders- Transitional Program is designed for individuals who have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in a field other than Speech Language Pathology or Communication Disorders. Any individual with a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is eligible for the Transitional Program. This program permits completion of undergraduate coursework (generally completed in one year of full time study) prior to enrolling in graduate level courses.
